I went for a show at the Center for the Book in San Francisco, and the book that really popped out for me was Michael Bartalos‘ 29 Degrees North.
To me, he seems to be standing at the cross-roads of Calder, Matisse, Miro, Picasso, and the Soviet Constructivist posters – how can the amalgam be anything less than brilliant!
His entire range of illustrations for the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco can be viewed at BartalosIllustration.
I know that I will be influenced by his work, particularly his animal drawings, for many years to come.
