I am really inspired by the breadth of his work, and it was a treat to see the original drawings by Arnold Lobel. These were some of my favorites.
I couldn’t find an image of my absolute favorite one – so I scanned the image from my copy of “The Arnold Lobel Book of Mother Goose: A Treasury of More Than 300 Classic Nursery Rhymes“. Since, its spread across two pages and my scanner is too small… the middle section of the image, is, unfortunately, missing.

The man in the wilderness asked me. Arnold Lobel. 1986. Graphite, ink, and watercolor on paper.
The man in the wilderness asked me,
How many strawberries grew in the sea?
I answered him, as I thought good,
As many as red herrings grew in the wood.
